Freedom, Liberty, And Rights: Three Cautionary Tales

Freedom, Liberty, And Rights: Three Cautionary Tales

Aryeh Neier's Essay "Freedom, Liberty, And Rights: Three Cautionary Tales" talks about the definition of those three words. What are the Freedom, Liberty and Rights mean in our mind.
"We enjoy liberty because we can secure protection of these rights when they are threatened" (50)
I use this essay as my seconary essay. I have some thoughts about the rights and health care.
When I was in China, some countries said China is the country which has no human rights. I totally don't agree it. I think we are same as other countries.
But when I started my study in United States. I found the words of "right" is for America. The political is different with China. In this essay, I can see the definition of "right" in USA is people, people make the right. But in China, is goverment. People must follow the goverment's decision. I saw the
percentage for suporting Obama is slipping down now. Because he made the "health care as everyone's right". I thought the "health care" is a super good system. It's helped the people who don't have money, let them have a ease life. Don't be worried about if we have a bad disease. But after I do some research, I found the reason why people against it. " If you already have health insurance, the only change you'll see under my plan is lower premiums. If you don't, you'll be able to get the same kind of plan that members of Congress get for themselves. " People thought, in order to help other people, the taxes will increase for them and the quality of treatment lever will fall down. And the most angry thing for people is that: they think Obama is more like a socialist now. He made a goverment and let people listen to it instead of the goverment listen to people.

George Orwell, Politics and English Language

'political writing becomes the defense of the indefensible, most political writing is bad, where it is not the author is usually a rebel ”.
I think the english is inflences with political. Also the political should follow the english lauguage.
Like the speech. It should be follow the 6 rules which is :
"1. Never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print.

2. Never use a long word where a short one will do.

3. If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out.

4. Never use the passive where you can use the active.

5. Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent.

6. Break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous."

For me, It's a good news that Obama visit China, I really hope that China and America has a very good relationship. So more people can go to United states and learn something new that different for their known. And also show the Chinese culture for American. The great landcape, the nice people, the mystery religion also the delicious food.
I hope more and more students can study abroad, learn the innovation idea, the Inherent Decency, the freedom.

Korea Gains as Nuclear-Plant Bidder!!!

South Korea is emerging as an unexpected contender in the global race to build nuclear-power plants, turning up as a finalist for one of the industry's most-coveted projects.[http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704538404574537471395577650.html]
The Korean bid has surprised more-established competitors—including industry leader Areva SA of France—as well as officials in the United Arab Emirates, who are examining bids for a contract that could be worth as much as $40 billion to build and run the Arab world's first nuclear-power plants. U.A.E. officials could award the contract as early as the next few weeks.
The science make the technology progress fast. Once, the war is men against men, it have less destory. But today, if the war happen again, it's a very horrible thing. The countries nu-clear is very dangous. I hope the world progress, the technology progress, but the war will stop.
Bless!!

Please protect "our" child

CANBERRA, Australia [NOVEMBER 15, 2009, 8:01 P.M. E]-- Prime Minister Kevin Rudd apologized Monday to thousands of impoverished British children shipped to Australia in past centuries with the promise of a better life, only to suffer abuse and neglect thousands of miles from home.
Britain and Australia are saying sorry to thousands of British children who were promised a better life overseas, only to suffer abuse and neglect thousands of miles from home.
At a ceremony in the Australian capital of Canberra attended by tearful former child migrants, Mr. Rudd apologized for his country's role in the migration and extended condolences to the 7,000 survivors of the program who still live in Australia. [http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125833122252049637.html]
It was a good news that Kevin rudd apologized for the children and start some new policy, but it also bad. Why apologized? If no child was regarded bad, They were no need to say sorry. Children is our future, the country's develop is related to them. So let the children have better life, better education. The world will have better future.

The youngest mayor!!! 18 years old.

Colton Morman, 18, won the election with 29 votes or 53.7 percent. He defeated Jeffrey Anspaugh, who had 21 votes or 38.8 percent. There were four write-in votes. The incumbent mayor decided not to run for reelection.Dawson is located about 8 miles west of Perry in Dallas County and has a population of more than 155 people.[http://www.keyc.com/node/29901]
May be I don't agree. Just how much "practical experience did you all have at 18?"If he don't have such expirence like it, he maybe failed in the work. But we cannot say if he was a genius who has this kind of tallent. So if he can do the job, maybe that's what some places need more of fresh, younger eyes to re-look some things.
Bless!

Suicide bomber kills 35 in attack on Iran Guards!!!!

Current event: October 19, 2009

Revolutionary Guards generals among 35 killed in Iran attack

"A suicide bomber blew himself up Sunday at a meeting in southeastern Iran of the elite Revolutionary Guards, killing seven commanders and 28 other people in an attack Tehran said was plotted on Pakistani soil." (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/18/20091018/twl-revolutionary-guards-generals-among-3cd7efd.html) I hope there is no war in the world. Last week, we read a lot of text about war, like Pearl Harbor (Le Fan),The sky (Horiba). Although i didn't born the time of war, I can feel the fear of the war clearly. Also in WWII, our coutry was injured, too. I alway heard the dread from old generation, like my grand mother. I condemn this Iran bomb act of terrorism and mourn the loss of innocent lives I hope there is no war any more. Bless!

President Barack Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize

President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize, 09 Oct 2009.
"The Norwegian Nobel Committee recognized the president for his work to strengthen international diplomacy, citing in particular efforts to rid the world of nuclear weapons. The peace prize appears to have caught everyone, including Mr. Obama himself, by surprise."(http://www.voanews.com/english/2009-10-09-voa58.cfm?renderforprint=1)
Although I am support Obama, but I don't think he already do the effort for the world's peace. He is new president for United states. Like a person said:"As much as I like Barack Obama, I just do not know that he has done enough to warrant such an honor."
May be this Peace Prize for Obama is his promise for peace, before the achievement, but I still think about normally the Nobel Peace Prize winner should be contribute to peace first, then after an assessment of his achievements they presentation the honor to him.
So I think this is a big suprise for me.

Economic Crisis Still Shaking The World!!!

Current Events Blog 10/04.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The nation's job losses accelerated in September, driving the unemployment rate to a 26-year high of 9.8% and casting a cloud over the incipient recovery, economic data showed Friday.(http://www.marketwatch.com/story/us-job-losses-accelerate-to-263000-in-september-2009-10-02)Also in Japan, the unemployment rate unexpectedly declined to 5.5 percent in August after reaching a record high of 5.7 percent a month earlier.

If we talk about the continuation of the crisis and the extent of deterioration, the most optimistic is a continuous 3 to 5 years of economic downturn (after the declining share of developed economies, per capita income lower), the most pessimistic is within two years the world will erupted into a major crisis , the unemployment rate sharply higher, the war further intensified.

Big Suprise!! Water Molecules Found on the Moon!

Current Events Blog 9/27.

The news that I have noticed is from the website: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/24sep_moonwater.htm, which posted on September 24, 2009 by Dr. Tony Phillips. It says NASA scientists have been successful in finding traces of water on the moon.

See this picture

The Moon Mineralogy Mapper shows us the color in blue. It means water absorption strength.
"New research shows water present across the moon's surface - It turns out the moon is a lot wetter than we ever thought, "(University of Tennessee Knoxville)
I remember when I was a child, I dreamt to be an astronaut. I wanted to land the moon. First I thought there might be have a species like us. I love a movie called ET direct by Steven Spielberg. I watched it again and again when I was a child. I wanted be their friend and that must be fantastic. Second, because my country have a large population. I can feel the stresses and strains of it. Like the competition, the House Prices, the educational level. So I always imagined that some of us could move to the moon. But after I grown up, I found that my thinking is funny. Because scientists said that there are no water, no life on the moon. So ET is just our imagination. Moving to the moon is especially preposterous.
I feel, for my childhood fairy tales are the only stuff that dreams are made of, and everything was not real for me now. After I read this news, I am shaking and happy. I feel some of my thinking of my childhood is not just imagination.
